Order in Chaos
In the delicate balance of existence, chaos and order often appear to be at odds with one another. Yet, within the intricate weave of life, one can find an undeniable truth: a profound beauty often emerges from the most tumultuous of circumstances. This relationship between chaos and order creates a dynamic interplay, revealing how seemingly opposing forces can coexist harmoniously. Embracing this concept allows us to appreciate the complexity of our experiences, suggesting that the unpredictable nature of life can lead to unexpected clarity and unparalleled strength.
Chaos often contains layers of order waiting to be discovered, depending on the lens through which you observe it. As the physicist Edward Lorenz famously said, “Chaos is the science of surprises, of the nonlinear and the unpredictable. It teaches us to expect the unexpected.”
Seeking harmony within the fragmented, random, layered structure of the OSB used as a canvas symbolises the search for an inner balance in a chaotic world.
Nature exhibits a complex order within its apparent randomness. The random movement of the material is seen as a representation of nature.
Instead of imitating nature, the aim is to capture its energy, reflect its freedom of movement, and draw the viewer into this unplanned, instictive, and free flow.
The texture of wood is emphasised in the paintings. The combination of the rustic texture of wood and contemporary expression strengthens the theme by symbolising the meeting of nature and man-made materials.
OSB board, which is widely used in the construction sector, was used as canvas in the project. OSB board is an industrial wood type formed by compressing wood chips by adding certain binders and adhesives. OSB is a cheap secondary construction material. Except for a few contemporary examples, it is generally not used in the foreground as a coating material. We often see it used as a construction fence in public spaces and we often pass by it on the road but do not notice it.
